Today Rodrigo took us downtown to the river and parks. The river is a huge attraction for the city and was nothing short of awesome. It was beautiful but not like a river you are first thinking of. It's man made and snakes its way through the city while harboring different shops, restuarants, fountains, boat rides, flower gardens, and other attractions. At some parts it even felt like Italy, despite the fact that I've never been there. "IT-LEE?? What's my wife doing in IT-LEE?!" We must have walked for at least 2 miles before reaching the rivers end where you can hop on the boats that traverse the rivers back and forth for a small fee of 50 pesos or $3. Also at the end there is a massive metal bucket that used to be used for steel or iron production, just like the ones out of Star Wars 2, but is now transformed into a nice fountain. We were told there was an old factory that got deconstructed and the city reused the old parts of the factory as art that is now scatered around the city. This bucket is one of those parts. How cool is that.

After the river ends there is a very big park that has loads to offer. We walked briefly into it but time was getting away from us as we were supposed to be at Iker's house with everyone to cook discada. We tried to take a boat back but the boats floated to Canada or something so we ended up wasting nearly an hour waiting before giving up and walked the entire way back. But not before we walked barely 100 feet and sure enough, 3...1+1+1=THREE boats passed us headed for the line to China we just left and were at the front of, go figure.
We finally arrived at the house where everyone was just finishing up dinner. We missed out on the cooking of the discada but after a couple drinks we let it go. The company and food was too amazing to care about something so small. The house itself deserves its own post as it was custom built, as are most houses here, but suffice it to say it was very cool.

The grill actually deserves special recognition as it was custom build along with the house as I mentioned. Iker's idea is that most grills are against the wall and only 1 or 2 people can grill at time or even see what's going on. He wanted a circular grill so that everybody could gather around and participate in the cooking. Genius! My kind of guy! Big grill + 360 degree cooking angle + all guests helping = maximum awesome

As usual the food was fantastic and the company even better. Everyone was cutting up and having a blast. Fun times are very hard to get away from here. If only we could have that same problem back in the States...
