The journey getting here was exactly that, a journey. It was quite arduous as we had to drive to Tulsa the night before our flight to Dallas. From Dallas we connected over to Houston where we had an 8 hour layover. Why we couldnt just get a direct flight from Bentonville to Houston I dont know. I didn't plan this one this time. But the layover turned out to be great because we were able to meet up with my best mates Jackson and Susie Q! We all went out and snagged some sushi before returning to the airport for the looong awaited 10:30pm flight to Monterrey.

Naturally there were only Mexicans on the flight but we were finally on the plane and the Spanish was in full swing. I should note that Viva Aerobus is a cheaper Mexican airline and then seats didn't even lean back. Also an interesting tid bit about the company is that there is no assigned seating. It's like genreal admission where the first ones on the plane get to choose wherever they want to sit. We chose the back when it was our turn as it was more open. And after many words in Spanish from the flight crew, we were off!!

We arrived to a rainy Monterrey at about midnight and customs was surprisingly not a pain like I was anticipating. The typical guards with rifles were present which startled Jeanie a little bit. Not every day an American sees a real guard with a freaking intimidating rifle rather than some out of shape over the hill guard with a squirt gun. I have seen them before and knew to expect them but it still made me cautious to see them in person again.
After we got through though, there they were...Rodrigo and his family! The long awaited reunion with our Mexican family. Was really great to see them again. Except Tere wasn't there so we met her back at the house. They were all as bubbly and filled to the brim with life as we remembered. There we were met with more eager greetings and offers of food already, which was perfect because we hadn't eaten since 7. Quesadillas would be the start to what has become the tortilla festival. Which leads into food. I know you were wondering when food was going to be brought up so here we geaux.
